5 Reasons Why This Blog (Still) Exists

Welcome to my new column!

I decided to give this gift to myself to reflect my love for lists and to provide a universally usable, compact format for different topics. What else would fit this blog more than this, ha? (Maybe apart from unicorn-gifs and amazing memes combining cynicism and the solitude and pains of life?)

My blog received a small, but for me a very significant makeover. Less chaos, more simplicity. (No, this is not my newly adapted life credo, but it might make sense to implement this to less virtual parts of my life maybe...) As a reflection of this, I'd like to give you a few reasons (except of BECAUSE I CAN!), why this little space has been so dear to me.

1. The first person who ever believed in my skills and abilities in various areas is my Mom. Until these days I remember how she wanted me to become a writer of essays and sarcastic articles for sophisticated women of the modern age (this was several years ago, when Slovak magazines for women were not 75% hidden or open advertisement and 25% strange unreadable articles). Regardless of the Facebook-algorithms and the reach of my posts dropping by... well, an insane percentage, the articles will still be here. For my Mom!

2. Daily life has its dark side and limitations, especially when you have a specific kind of job where you are openly maneuvered or even directed into saying certain things a certain way. Do this, do that. Plan this. Talk to this person about this topic. Eh, you should have written that mail differently.

Things are often not good enough, not right enough. Never - enough.

Here, in this blog... I can write anything. Anytime. Anyhow.

What's that? You want proof? Then be my guest.

Ready?

Salty caramel suuucks!

3. This place is my personal archive of memories.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE those moments when people visit a place I recommend or read a book and tell me they liked it (or... reach out to me to tell me my highly-rated book was a torture to read for them). Me and Alba even inspired people to try chai latte for the first time in their lives!

Believe it or not, I don't write my articles with the intention to influence people. A world "ruled" by bloggers, their own values, choices (and / or hidden advertising with various brands) would be a too easy one. I hope you can all feel that this is a place of openness and nothing forced and fake.

As time went by, this blog has become an amazing database of my memories, joys, fears, weird random encounters and situations I felt like sharing with you. And sometimes it's just me who knows what sadness was engulfing me when writing this or that article radiating the usual vibes of... you know, Margitism.

If good literature dies out until I retire, at least Granny-Me will know what to read! (Self-pat level 9000... #notashamed)

4. What are the top questions with which not-that-close-people can induce the greatest pain to an introvert?

What are your plans for the weekend? / What did you do during the weekend?
Now let's start this encounter with everyone introducing themselves. Who wants to start?
Hey, my name is Carl, I think we haven't met! What insanely hot / cold / windy weather, right?

With age I indeed became a wiser person and realized that saying none of your business, I know you don't really care anyway and you will not remember anything from what I say is not the right response, especially when the questions are asked by not that close acquaintances, colleagues or people you simply do not really want to have a conversation with.

And there comes my blog to the rescue! There is always a smooth transition towards a topic an introvert loves and can talk about passionately, even in the most meaningless conversations which can possibly exist. Oh, my plans for the weekend? Work on my blog, write a bit, edit some things. This weather? Oh, such amazing background to have while writing!

5. I simply love writing.

Everything I write is something MINE, something not directed, influenced in its shape or content by anyone (and spiced up by things I allow to spice it up. Hugs and kisses to my editor and guest-contributors!). It helps me sort my thoughts and focus in this chaotic world filled with so much noise, it creates structure which balances the unpredictable things lurking behind the corner. Honestly, it's one of the things keeping me sane.

... and where else could I write a whole story about knitting (including an industrial photo-series with me as the central person) if not here?
