Alba's and Margita's Great Test of Chais, Pt. 7: Místo

Hopping off the subway or the tram at Hradčanská is always a good idea. The castle is close, Bubeneč is a lovely neighborhood for walks and occasional jealousy of the people being able to afford those expensive huge light flats. Nature lovers can continue their journey to Divoká Šárka or to the Džbán lake. Chai-testers can stay in the area and try a cup of chai in Místo.

Místo (The Place, The Space, The Spot... you pick your favorite translation) is the younger sibling of Můj šálek kávy, one of my personal pioneers of  hipster cafés with cool interiors and Doubleshot coffee. (If you know which was the first hipster café where people were even queuing outside on the street to get a spot inside, let me know.) It's located close to both the subway and the tram stop and has the most instagrammy-iconic wall-illustration ever, the cool drawing of Czech artist Kateřina Kynclová.

ALBA

The Foam: Not a very thick or spicy layer of foam with a cute heart.  5.5/10

The Chai: Are the cafés in Prague reading these articles? I think they might be, cause lately our cups of chai are nicely hot and I couldn't be happier about it :D However, I found this chai a bit plain in flavor and missing some spicy touch. 6.5/10
The Overall Experience: Exploring another one of Prague's neighborhoods, we headed to Dejvice to enjoy our first chai of December during one of those dark-before-even-4PM evenings. This time we visited the lovely Místo. Always busy, a bit loud, but with the smiliest service around, my really crappy-till-that-moment day became so much better after our chai, which was followed by a nice bottle of white wine (including a thorough explanation on the origin of the wine and the reassurance that we could drink as much as we wanted without getting any headache :D). 7.5/10

MARGITA

The Foam: Sweet, nice and smooth. It's quite spicy and I even noticed a concentrated layer of spices between the foam itself and the chai. The foam was dense and represented quite a big portion of the chai. 7.5/10

The Chai: Served in a very modest size and in a Doubleshot mug (which is by the way one of the most popular and tasty brands of coffee you can get in the cafés of Prague). The chai itself had a little foggy, not too expressive taste, but - woohooo! - it was warm! 7/10

The Overall Experience: Before I dive in and give feedback about the experience, let me stop and focus on the pre-experience. Místo has the same reservation system as Můj šálek kávy and back in the days, I was AMAZED by it. Their online-reservation had been the most introvert-friendly way of booking a table I had experienced a few years ago. They have their own system where you choose the day and time, pick the number of people and write a nice comment if you want to. Soon you receive a message whether your reservation went through or not. Just imagine - no calls, no troubles in communication when the waiter doesn't hear or understand you or you cannot hear them due to the noisy environment. No chaos. Kudos for this!

Now back to our chai-evening! The space has its peak-times and if you go to Místo after work, you will almost certainly experience a period of noise. This café is very popular and therefore often crowded, but luckily the interior and the spaciousness do not make you feel like you are squeezed and trapped in a place full of people and noise. Actually, the interior is really subtle, I love the balance between the wooden tables and simple decorative elements and the expressive marker-drawing on one of their walls.

Not sure why, but they always seat me at a table with a direct view on the desserts. (Un-)fortunately, this place has not much to offer for people with very specific dietary needs, but the cakes look so damn nice! Luckily I had my dose of sweetness with the chai (and of course with the mere presence of Alba - awww!) and was NOT THAT jealous of my amiga and her nice cake.

One very pleasant aspect of Místo is also their portfolio of other drinks. They serve wine from my favorite Czech winery Kubík (yes, it's the winery owning the mulled-wine stands with the best hot wine with the plummy-surprise). Similarly to the hot wine, you can also drink as much of the normal white wine without having a headache the next day, as Vinařství Kubík doesn't use artificial colorants, taste inducers and sulphites. The enthusiastic waiter informed us about this and of course I was happy to make the sacrifice and test this for you. (I felt great the next day, so he didn't make it up.)

The waiter was a highlight of the evening, as he was one of the more interacting kinds. On one hand, we got to know more about the wine and on the other hand, we had a proactive volunteer who took a photo of us after several unsuccessful selfie-attempts. Yay!

Later on, Místo got quite empty and the atmosphere was even nicer due to smooth jazz-music playing in the background. I would have loved a nice late-evening walk in this area, but the night was cold, dark and the next day full of potential terrors without getting our proper adult-amount of sleep.

The atmosphere got calmer, the voices of people got quieter and the jazz music in the background more audible. Místo is a very well-lighted place, there is not really a chance to get sleepy or doze off due to dim light and soft-cushioned sofas. It's great for moments when you need to stay vigilant and woke until late. I think me and Alba have never had such focused and alert states of mind during any of our chai testings. (Which turned out to be a bit counter-productive as our complaining conversation went on very passionately and emotionally during the whole evening. Slapped by the December-cold after leaving this café, I don't remember getting home this fresh. 8/10

Price of the chai 75 CZK / 3 EUR
