Since none of this was happening for either of us, we decided to keep stability and some pre-family-time warmth by having our regular meeting and testing the last chai of 2017. This time we picked a place in my very neighborhood and I was curious how Silencio and their chai will do.
ALBA
The Foam: A standardly thick layer of foam with no drawing on top and somehow unevenly distributed flavor, which made some parts of it a bit without taste. 5/10
The Chai: A big cup of long-lasting spicy-tasting chai, but with a spice combo somehow different than usually, not my favorite. 6/10
The Overall Experience: I cannot write about this experience without really emphasizing how freeeeeeeeeeezing cold it was outside! We headed for our last chai of 2017 to the heart of Holešovice in a snowy, dark and oh-so-cold day. Our five minute walk to Silencio almost turned out a deadly experience to my Spanish hands :D The place was quite empty, nicely hidden in a beautiful courtyard that looks like it can make a lovely summer terrace, however probably not the coziest for a winter chai. 6.5/10
MARGITA
The Foam: Ah! Just the look at the foam was like a spicy slap on my face. What happened to nice subtle decoration-less foam or minimalist latte-art? This chai came with an abstract blot on the foam and it looked like someone has actually hurt the poor chai before putting it in front of us. The foam was rather watery, dull and not really thick. 5/10
The Chai: The chai was on the warmer side, which was great after entering the café escaping what I would call a very mild blizzard. As the foam had indicated, the watery taste was considerable also in the chai itself, although notes of spices were noticeable rather than sweetness. It was served in a big plain white mug, not accompanied with a glass of water though. 6/10
The Overall Experience: As you may have noticed based on my feedback regarding the foam and chai, I've had visited Silencio before, having had much better experience. (You know that feeling of a tiny heartbreak when you really like a place, take someone you like there and the place is morphed into a worse Mr. Hyde-version of the place you once fell in love with...?) I've always visited Silencio in the evening and most of the time, me and the person I was with were the only ones there. Awesome! This time, it was the same, but the waitress seemed like she wanted to go home already. And this after having a bad day.
The interior and decorations on the wall are quite unique. The pictures and "paintings" are creepily moving and fit the industrial-atmosphere of the whole place very well. (Frida's moving eyebrow, yeah!) This place has also an outdoor terrace lovely to occupy during summer. For some reason it reminds me of Café Neustadt, just more simplistic.
I would have loved this chai-testing evening to be the same level of nice as it had been in my few prior visits. On the other hand, this experience was such a great fit into the overall pre-Christmas vibes, when things were not exactly going the way they were supposed to.
For the wine, we headed back into the cold and walked a bit until sitting down in Vnitroblock. 6/10
Price of the chai 55 CZK / 2.20 EUR
