Alba's and Margita's Great Test of Chais, Pt. 6: Café V lese

Welcome to the jungle! I mean, to the forest... Café V lese - the café in the woods, is a little forest-like place on the famous Krymské street. I have to admit I'd never been to Krymská before going to V lese, as the overall vibe of this area was vividly "too much" in my imagination.

On the winter day of our visit (officially still autumn though), the streets and the corso were empty, people hurried into the warmth of their apartments or restaurants and cafés. After we sat down in the café of our choice, the place began to fill with people and chatter, soon there was no space for new guests.

But what was there?

Of course, chai!

ALBA

The Foam: Consistent layer of foam with cocoa powder on top, already spicy and flavorish. 7.5/10

The Chai:
My first note about it is "SOOO WARM, WOOOHOOOO!!", finally a chai that fulfills my temperature expectations :D Served in a nice old style cup this chai is spicy and tasty and has definitely the best quality/price ratio out of all the chais we have tried so far (46 CZK!!!). I must admit I was happily surprised with it, as probably Café V lese is not a place you go for chai, but rather to enjoy some drinks, which we also did and can recommend as well :D 7.5/10
The Overall Experience: We like to explore different areas of Prague and it was about time this chai comitee made its way to Krymská, definitely one of my favorite Prague streets. Café V lese is such a great place: cozy set up with dim lights, nice music and a decoration that evokes its name (Café in the woods). With occasional live music in the basement and enthusiastic smiley service one cannot really ask for much more :) 9.5/10

Yes... It was pretty dark in there.
MARGITA

The Foam: I had to smile when seeing the foam, as it seemed so - and now I have to use this word, please don't judge me - honest. No latte art, pure spongy milk foam with cocoa powder on the top. I immediately thought - hm, if the foam is like this, then this is going to be a sincere cuppa chai! 7/10

The Chai: Very warm chai served in a romantic vintage mug. (Granny's supplies strike again!) I even think this is so far the Hot Champion of our chai competition. It was quite spicy and not too sweet, the spiciness I found even more intense when getting closer to the bottom of my mug. 8/10

The Overall Experience: In Café V lese you feel like in the woods indeed, especially during dark evenings. It's cozy, lit by not too aggressively radiant lamps and the place has the atmosphere of a secret you are entering while holding your breath. The atmosphere became filled with talk as the afternoon progressed. In the end, this evening turned out to be one of those where you can witness the complete circle of café dynamics. First, you enter and are able to find a spot, THE spot inviting you to sit down and forget about your day thus far. Then the place becomes crowded and people outside are looking through the windows with big puppy eyes, checking whether someone is already leaving. Then you suddenly realize it's quiet, only some people left around you and you don't dare checking your watch. Somewhere in the back of your head, a little voice whispers: tomorrow, work... tomorrow, work...

Regarding the staff, they were really very nice. Sometimes you encounter people who are radiating their non-work persona even at their workplace. In Café V lese, there is this charismatic waiter who has the glow of a Russian ballet dancer and who just made our stay in the café even nicer.

Overall, I had a lovely time and if you like this particular kind of dark'n'cozy place with dark furniture and books in bookshelves, the woods are your go-to place! 9/10

Price of the chai: 46 CZK / 1.80 EUR
