Alba's and Margita's Great Test of Chais, Pt. 9: Kavárna V Sedmém nebi

In today's chai-test we'll take you to Újezd, the place where Malá Strana and Anděl meet. This means busy mornings and evenings, but also hidden quiet alleys and lovely spots with a hint of old school.

In one of the alleys of Újezd you can enter a little piece of (self-titled) heaven, Kavárna V Sedmém nebi (The 7th Heaven Café). An angelic being is hovering above the guests, making sure you finish your drink properly and eat the greens with your toasts.

Many people call this café a student-café and I have to admit it is indeed a place with a different vibe than the ones tested before.

And how was the chai there? Heavenly or straight out of hell?

ALBA

The Foam: An average thick layer of foam with a lot of spice powder and a small flower on the top. However, not very tasty and quite plain. 6/10

The Chai: Served in a beautiful cup and quite warm. I found this chai quite milky and, like the foam, not very spicy. 6/10

The Overall Experience: For the first chai of 2018 we headed to this cool bar close to Anděl. We met on an unusually warm January evening, still glowing from Christmas, time spent with family and friends and excited about the new year, so our happy mood matched the laid back and chilled student vibe of this coffee place. We also had our first wine of the year together here. :) 8/10

MARGITA

The Foam: A classic milk-foam, not the typical microfoam served in many cafés. And it was decorated with cinnamon! I love such humble and simple oldschoolness when done in good quality and I really don't need to have a foamy Mona Lisa drawn on my hot beverage (at least most of the time). 7/10

The Chai: I have to get this off my chest... Guys, I'm in love with the mug and in case you have one like this at home, unutilized and sadly getting covered in dust... I'd be happy to give it a nice, loving home and fill it with my daily nerve-calming tea.

As I said, the chai came in a lovely mug which was just another great fit into the details of the whole place. I had to smile when our waitress put the mugs in front of us. I simply like when things (and people) aren't pretentiously faking stuff they are simply not and this chai was as authentic as the whole café.

I dare saying that this chai latte didn't come from an instant powder-mix, but rather from being brewed from something, either black tea and they added the spices afterwards or brewing chai-tea and adding milk. There were no residual spices at the bottom of my mug, the chai tasted of black tea and had a gentle touch of spices. Especially of the cinnamon from the foam.

This winter evening was not one of the cold ones and neither was our chai. I even needed to let it get colder in order to take my first sip. Hooray! 7.5/10

The Overall Experience: 7th Heaven is a coffee place with an original atmosphere of a place where students and locals meet. It's a nice meeting point to sit together with your classmates or your platonic love you finally dared to invite for a drink.

About this place I had one particular feeling - lightness. You know, there are many, really many cafés in Prague and there are new ones opening constantly. In these fresh and new places, you can see and smell the efforts the owners are putting into creating the perfect coffee selection, choosing the perfect techniques of its filtering. Fair-trade beans, bio, third-wave coffee and other cool concepts. Raw cakes, vegan dished based on eight types of beans. And avocado. Lots and lots of avocado.

In this heaven, they serve large white toasts, they pour rosé wine in the most universal wine glasses and the desks and chairs are comfortably unstable. It's amazing.

The staff there is very attentive and kind, also absolutely fitting the overall vibe of the place. I can imagine the waitresses being students of classical languages, one of these young women who draw dresses during classes and sew them later on in the evening.

Overall a more than pleasant experience, especially thanks to the atmosphere! 9/10

Price of the chai: 52 CZK / 2.05 EUR
