Spring it on! / The story of my knitted sweater

Only three things are infinite: the universe, human stupidity, and the row of a sweater you are knitting in one piece. I remember those hours: starting one row and finishing it after long minutes of forgetting about food, water or your need of proper light on dark winter evenings. I remember those days at work when I was sitting in front of my laptop, revising and planning the next rows in my mind, counting down the minutes until I get home to my needles. (Ehm, is it just me, or does this really sound a bit like an addiction...?)

I remember last Christmas in Glühwein-scented Prague, my Mom reasoning with me regarding a mistake on a sleeve. The perfectionist in me HATED that little knot visible maybe just for more knit-skilled people, yet I always thought of the hours spent knitting the sleeve - and I couldn't take apart what was knitted together. "Undo it. You will always think of it when you'll wear it. You won't like wearing it. And anyway, I have unknitted much larger pieces - imagine you'd have to unknit the whole back part!" My Mom's words soon had their impact. (No - I didn't send her home to Slovakia, offended by her well-meant advice.) Soon, the sleeve with the mistake became history. Luckily, knitting is a world where thread-phoenixes occur pretty often, so soon the leftover thread used for the former sleeve became a new one. (And as always, Mom was right!)

One sleeve, two sleeves, the back and front parts - all on one long needle, in the last phases of knitting filling almost my whole backpack. It's a pity one cannot re-do things the way it's possible in the yarn world (The Yorld, ehm). Re-take decisions that turned out to be bad, re-order that food that made you sick, re-spring this winter-y March...

Anyway - the sweater is finished. Winter is almost done with us - at least for this season.

Spring is coming closer each day. Slowly but surely. Knit by knit.

Until it's fully here, I'll keep pretending it's here already. I have a thick enough sweater to give me cover.
